The Mae Trio had an incredible 2014, playing almost every folk festival on the map in Australia and becoming the buzz band on the local folk scene. However, internationally their achievements were nothing short of remarkable.
Traveling to the UK in January for Celtic Connections, they ended up performing in front of 12,000 people in Glasgow, the performance also airing on live television. They then went to the US, where prestigious blog The Bluegrass Situation called them the “discovery” of Folk Alliance International.
The toured the UK summer, playing the legendary Cambridge Folk Festival, and then returned to the US for a much hyped showcase at Americana Music Festival, plus a gig at the Station Inn alongside The Milk Carton Kids and Sarah Jarosz.
It’s all happening for The Mae Trio, and it’s because they kick ass on their instruments, write authentic, melodic songs, sing in gorgeous harmony and are strong, genuine people. This will be a must see.
The Once are a trio from Newfoundland in Canada, much loved for their joyous, harmony-rich acoustic music. They have been nominated for a JUNO Award and won a Canadian Folk Festival Award, and have just released their latest record Departures worldwide through legendary label Nettwerk Music.
They are currently touring the world with the world conquering Passenger. They play sold out shows at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre as part of this tour, but we’re quietly confident their favourite gig on the tour will be at The Melbourne Folk Club.
