7.30PM: DOORS
8.00PM: AL PARKINSON
9.00PM: MIA DYSON

Mia Dyson is one of the finest singer/songwriters in Australia in our humble opinion. Her voice is an absolute classic – rich, husky and timeless – and her songs are authentic, heartfelt, and at times down right inspirational.

Dyson has been back in Australia touring her new album Idyllwild, which has been critically acclaimed by local media (see quotes below). This record comes off the back of an illustrious career that includes three ARIA nominations and a win for Best Blues & Roots Album for her album Parking Lots.

She has toured the world over the past ten years, playing alongside Stevie Nicks, Eric Clapton, Chris Isaak, Ani Di Franco and even Frank Zappa, and has spent much of her recent years touring the US and building a loyal following there.

We’re pretty confident there won’t be a better environment than The Melbourne Folk Club to see a Mia Dyson performance and this guy will surely sell out. Go grab em tickets now!

“Mia Dyson has one of the great voices” Stack Magazine

“A bold new venture for Dyson…unrestricted, unmediated songwriting at its finest” The Music

“Idyllwild is a cohesive 11 tracks of authentic, roots-rock brilliance. If 2012′s The Moment was Dyson’s career-defining reinvention, Idyllwild is that proof that she can improve upon that record’s strong foundation” Double J

“Dyson’s songs, on her brilliant new album Idyllwild, are little vignettes of the wanderings that we go on, the striving that we do that leads us to our hoarse recollections.” Daytrotter

Simply watching Al Parkinson perform, you immediately feel like she is an old friend. Her relaxed presence and hilarious on stage banter is the perfect complement to her soulful voice and wonderfully constructed songs of love and loss. Al’s signature strum of the ukulele holds it steady – as her warm honeyed vocals soar, and breathe, in all the right places. Watch her play here:

Al is making her mark as a major contributor to the Melbourne music scene wearing many hats, hosting a weekly morning radio show Yeah Good Thanks on Southern FM, presenting on Balcony TV as well as curating intimate and unique musical events. Al’s single Like This was released in May, and we’re delighted to welcome her back to The Melbourne Folk Club.
